Orcas Island Chamber Music Fest Collaboration.
A huge success.

This summer, Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival (OICMF) and HALO* collaborated to project five of Martha’s paintings on stage at Orcas Center to accompany world class musicians playing some of the most evocative chamber music on the planet. The paintings were the perfect complement to the music, energizing and exciting audiences in attendance. The photos and video below capture a few of those concert moments with the Miró Quartet, Jon Kimura Parker, and Ruta Marija Kuzmickas.

Pianist Ruta Kuzmickas has established herself as an avid performer in both traditional and unconventional settings. Her engagements span from solo recitals to chamber and new music concerts that have taken her to venues in the United States and Europe. In the image above she plays Erik Satie’s Gymnopédie No. 1 for solo piano as the painting Chelsea Floral is projected on screen. Click on the image above to see and hear a glimpse of the piece.

The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated string quartets, having performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages. For twenty-five years the Miró has performed a wide range of repertoire that pays homage to the legacy of the string quartet while looking forward to the future of chamber music by commissioning new works and collaborating with some of today’s most important artists. In August 2022, The Miro Quartet played Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major, in three movements as Martha’s painting Melange slowly faded in on screen over the span of thirty minutes.
